A Chance Encounter That Sparked an Idea
Over a decade ago, at a nanotechnology conference in Dresden, Germany, our founder Chris Barbé was presenting his work in advanced materials.
After his talk, two young researchers approached him. They had driven several hours just for the opportunity to connect — bringing with them a new idea: combining nanotechnology with nanofibres.
That moment sparked a simple but powerful question:
Could we create a better way to deliver active ingredients through the skin?
What began as a conversation quickly turned into a collaboration — and the start of a long journey.
Rethinking the Patch
At the time, most patches on the market were surprisingly inefficient. A large portion of the active ingredients often remained trapped in the patch after use.
So the goal became clear:
Create a patch that delivers more — and wastes less.
Early work focused on developing materials that could dramatically improve delivery efficiency. The results were promising, but turning that idea into a real product would take years.
The Long Road to Something Better
The path was anything but straightforward.
There were technical challenges, failed attempts, and difficult decisions along the way. At one stage, we explored pharmaceutical applications — including powerful pain-relief patches — but the complexity and timelines made it difficult to bring the technology to people quickly.
That led to a turning point.
Rather than waiting years, the focus shifted toward creating something that could help people sooner — using safe, plant-based actives with a strong safety profile.
Building SkinSync™
In 2022, Encapsolutions was founded with a clear ambition:
to bring this technology out of the lab and into real life.
From there, everything had to be built from the ground up:
- Developing and refining multiple patch prototypes
- Setting up specialised production capabilities
- Securing patents and trademarks
- Testing for performance and skin compatibility
- Sourcing high-quality ingredients
- Building a supply chain across Australia and the United States
It took three years to go from concept to a product available on shelves and online.
